Pacesetter Ski Shoppe Race Newsletter September 2016

Hi Everyone,

School is back in session and summer is about to come to an end which means winter and the 2016/2017 ski season is only a couple months away.
It is time to start thinking about equipment needs for your racer and whether the boots and skis from last season will be adequate for the season ahead?
Our store will soon be packed full with this season’s newest gear as we are receiving new shipments on a daily basis.
Most of you already know that Pacesetter Ski Shoppe is the official race dealer in Edmonton for Volkl, Fischer, Nordica, Blizzard, Tecnica, Dynastar, Lange, Head, LEKI, POC, UVEX, BRIKO, and SWIX. (We are also able to order the Dalbello race boots for those of you want them)
As we approach the start of the new season it is important to make sure you have all of your equipment needs looked after sooner than later especially if you have not already pre-ordered your equipment.
We started taking individual race equipment orders following the completion of the Annual Race Ski Testing that took place at Snow Valley last March and we continued to place individual race equipment pre-orders all spring and summer due to the possibility of inventory being sold out late summer/early fall.
Some brands are already sold out of key sizes of Junior and Adult SL and GS skis so it is important to consider placing your order ASAP!
Contact us for orderforms for your favorite brands.
Availability of race boots are currently not in the same state as race skis, but that will change rapidly as we move into the fall – most people wait until the fall to purchase race boots for their children so to try and make it through the entire season without needing to buy the next size up midseason.
Now that fall us upon us we recommend coming into the store to buy/order boots to satisfy your growing racer before stock availability is affected.
See attached for 10 Steps to a Perfect Boot Fit.
These steps are how our staff will determine the correct fit and will assist you in making sure you are buying the correct size for you racer.

FIS RH2013 CONFORMITY Helmet Rule - Mandatory compliance this fall

The FIS 2013 helmet rule comes into “mandatory status” starting this fall.
All Alberta Alpine registered U14, U16 and FIS racers are “required” to wear a helmet with the new conformity.
The FIS RH2013 rule does not apply to U12 or U10 racers, but helmets with hard ears are still mandatory for all disciplines and training.
We currently stock UVEX, POC and BRIKO.
A new addition to our race helmet offering for fall 2016 will be SWEET PROTECTION.
SWEET PROTECTION is exclusive to Pacesetter in Edmonton.
SWEET PROTECTION helmets are worn by: World Cup Champion Aksel Lund Svindal and many other WC athletes and have some style to them compared to other brands.
Attached is a document showcasing the brands and models of race helmets that we stock at Pacesetter. Pricing, models, colors, sizing etc is shown in the documents.
Also attached is a quick reference fact sheet on the FIS RH2013 certifications and what you should be looking for when buying a new helmet for the 2016-2017 season.
Come see us sooner than later if you need a new helmet that meets the new conformity.

Pacesetter is pleased to once again offer you the opportunity to attend 1 of 3 SWIX tuning & waxing clinics!!!
A representative from SWIX will be in store to conduct a demonstration of introductory ski tuning procedures for ski club members.
This annual event and is a great opportunity for parents and racers (new and existing) to view the procedures from start to finish of how to properly maintain your athlete’s skis so to build confidence during training and competition for the upcoming training and race season.
Ski maintenance is an important piece of the equation that many do not practice on a regular basis.
Attending one of the clinics will prove:
- That if you uphold a consistent routine of tuning your equipment that the actual process will take you less time than you think it will take.
- Regular scheduled maintenance (not just for race days, but for training days too) is an absolute must if you want your athlete to meet or exceed goals for success as soon as possible.
Every clinic is open to all clubs to RSVP to.
If you are interested in attending please reserve a spot for the clinic date that works best for your schedule.
Clinic Dates:
-           Wednesday October 5, 2016 – 7pm
-           Wednesday October 19, 2016 – 7pm
-           Wednesday November 30, 2016 – 7pm
See attached for more details – RSVP is required

Pacesetter is excited to be offering an alternative to our annual SWIX clinics this season.
We have arranged for a SIDECUT tuning workshop to take place at Pacesetter this season!!! The SIDECUT clinics will run as workshops, not product demonstrations or business pitches.
Attendees can expect a 40 minutes of explanation leading into 3 or 4 stations that will be used for hands on learning.
We are offering these workshops for free to help educate local athletes and their parents about the importance of “ski tuning and its crucial link to skill development”.
Sidecut is a ski tuning company where an elite race coach not only designs, manufactures, and sells its tools, but also teaches you how to use them.
Sidecut tools are developed in Whistler, British Columbia by Christian Hillier and have grown into a national brand sought after by weekend warriors and professional racers alike.
Christian Hillier’s name has become synonymous with the highest quality of performance coaching. Christian coached 30 back-to-back winters, alternating between the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere. In his mid-20s, he coached with the Canadian Ski Team, then founded the Australian ski coaching certification body, was the International coaching facilitator for the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation.  Chris was also the head coach for the Australian National Team, Dutch Men’s Team, New Zealand Women’s Team and British National Team.
His workshop will be well worth attending and space will fill up fast!!!
Workshop Date:
-           Wednesday September 28, 2016 at 7pm.

Racing is a world of its own: moving from edge to edge in a thousandth of a second, full power transmission to the skis, anticipating tricky sections, a subtle adjustment that will allow the racer to guide his or her skis towards the perfect course line and gain the split second needed to get ahead of their competitors are only some of the variables that goes through a racers mind when tackling a challenging race course.
Every skier has different needs and expectations, depending on their commitment, approach to skiing and physical build and strength. In addition to these points equipment modifications and adjustments can be worthwhile to maximize the effectiveness of your racers equipment.
Adapting competition equipment, especially ski boots takes time. Many adjustments will be ongoing throughout the season depending on the skier’s development. Many World Cup and FIS racers understand the importance of this “science” and spend a large part of their summer training fine-tuning their equipment with the help of experts.
The information being provided to you today is in hopes to provide a better understanding of the many equipment options and adjustments that are available to racers in the Edmonton, Red Deer and Northern Alberta zones by shopping for their race equipment at Pacesetter.
Pacesetter Ski Shoppe will be offering products and services that will allow for racers to customize the fit of their equipment to gain the most out of their equipment in accordance with all FIS rules.
4 specific products and services that we would like to bring to your attention at this time are:

1. Installation of Superfeet insoles to replace stock insoles that come with your boots.
2. Installation of shims between race bindings and race ski plates for added stack height.
3. Installation of boot lifters to increase the height of the ski boot from the ski.
4. Installation of Booster Straps to replace existing Velcro power straps.
See the attached pages for more detailed explanations of these product and their benefits.
These concepts are not NEW, but have not been used by many racers in our area because of lack of knowledge of them. Pacesetter Ski Shoppe would like to change this!!
Also attached is an endorsement from Sandy Webster - long time Volkl Canada National Race representative - for the above modifications that Pacesetter is offering. Sandy has provided Pacesetter a brief letter on his perspective on the equipment modifications that will be available at Pacesetter and how they will benefit all racers throughout their racing journey.
In addition to the above enhancements that can be made to your racers equipment, Pacesetter is also able to provide the following services:

  • Localized boot stretching to relieve small pressure points
  • Boot Stretching for additional width or length
  • Grinding of your shells (from the inside) to relieve pressure points

Pacesetter Ski Shoppe is committed to becoming the dealer of choice for racers in the Edmonton, Red Deer and Northern Alberta ski clubs.
We aim to provide you and your racer with the best equipment available and the knowledge to provide your racer with the tools to show up on race day ready to WIN!!
