Rabbit Hill Ski Club OPEN HOUSE

This event will be held at Rabbit Hill Snow Resort from 10:00 – 1:00 on Saturday, December 8th.

The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of the sport of Alpine ski racing, through a fun day on the hill with our coaches.

Rabbit Hill Ski Club started in 1978 and is still running strong today!  We are part of a growing youth ski community in Edmonton and Northern Alberta.  Rabbit Hill Ski Club is a parent run, family oriented ski racing club that endorses the mission statements of the Alberta Alpine Association and commits to the following goals:

  • Develop in all members, a life long love of      Alpine skiing, a commitment to safety, and the spirit of sportsmanship.
  • Develop in all skiers a respect for self and      encourage personal growth and self fulfillment.
  • Provide an effective, yet affordable Alpine      racing program that gives all skiers the opportunity to use all Alpine      racing skill to the best of their abilities in competition
  • Develop in all members a love of the sport of Alpine      skiing, a commitment to safety, and the spirit of sportsmanship.
  • Develop in all skiers a respect for self and      encourage personal growth and self fulfillment.
  • Provide the opportunity for skiers at all levels      of ability to develop Alpine racing skills in an enjoyable team      environment.

The open house registration will take place at our Audi Training Center, located next to the T-Bar, at the rabbit hill Snow Resort starting at 0930. Kids will get an opportunity to train with our coaches and try a few timed runs on our race course. Each participant will go home with a pre-training certificate.

President’s message

Dryland is successfully under way for everyone.  The weather is getting colder.  There is snow at Marmot. Only 6 weeks away from first training camp in the mountains.  A great group of coaches are ready to get started.

Only a few things need to be done before the season can begin:

Dad needs to tune some skis that he avoided last Spring, and

The Club needs some help with our Web Site

The role is titled Web Master/Communications.  What we need is an individual (or spousal team) that has some familiarity with a web site.

Our web site has become a vital communication tool for our Club.  That being said, our site needs some TLC to clean it up, update some content and generally raise the level of quality.

Please contact me directly if you have the appropriate skills to fill this role

Thanks

Terry

Coaching and Dryland Update

Hello Rabbit Hill Families,

Even though we are still in the middle of Summer,  we would like to announce this years coaching structure.

We will have Co-Program Directors

Brian Bentt: U10 and Regional Program

Mike Yamashita: U12 and up

Our coaching staff will include many returning coaches and some new coaches who are recently retired Rabbit racers.

Nancy Greene U10 Head Coach: Kerstin Skow

U12 Coach: Tbd

U14 Coach: Blake Bentt

U16 Coach: Mike Yamashita

FIS Coach: Tim Zarski

Regional Head Coach: Eric Fruhwirth

The new program names are a change that has been made in alpine skiing internationally and adopted by Alpine Canada and Alberta Alpine.  U10 (9 and under), U12 (10 & 11 yr olds), U14 (12 & 13 yr olds), U16, U18.  The Rabbit Hill programs will have some changes as race calendars are finalized and our head coaches plan out the programs, however the biggest change will be getting used to the new lingo.

U12 is the group with the most changes to the race calendar and we will have a parents meeting for this group during the Sept 15th Registration Day.

Dryland programs for the FIS and U16 have already begun, and the rest will be ramping as well.

Further information about Dryland will be sent out soon.

Have a great end of Summer

Terry Mix,  President

Dave Lawson,  Alpine Chair

RHSC Board Positions Available

Below is a list of current Board Members and their contact information. You will notice that there are a number of empty positions.

Many of these positions are vital to a successful club.  As well, many of these positions do not require a ski racing background.

Since these are Board position, you will be invited to attend our Board meetings.  Although not always exciting or intellectually stimulating, these meeting do provide great insight to the inner workings of the ski club.  They are also great stepping stones to other positions on the Board.

  • This position is responsible to liaise with the Bingo Hall
  • And “remind” individuals of their commitments to work the bingo’s they signed up for at the beginning of the year
  • Training is provided

Government Grant

  • We need an individual that can devote some time to ensure we are applying for money that is available
  • Some training and direction is also available

  • Creativity and a love of the sport are the biggest requirements to fill this role
  • Training and direction are definitely available

  • If you know what HTML means, apparently it is not “Hit The Mother Load”
  • And you have some creative flair, we need you!
  • Direction will be provided

Awards and Trophies

  • Not on the official list of positions, but still, a very important role
  • Just imagine all the crying Nancy Greene racers, when we have no ribbons to hand out after a race!
