At RHSC, we pride ourselves on maintaining a high degree of parent involvement and volunteerism. RHSC has earned the reputation of putting on high quality events and supplying trained volunteers whenever required.
The better the event the better the experience for our kids.
This reputation does not happen by chance. It is due to the conscious effort of making sure we have the right people to perform a variety of jobs. Race days require an especially high number of volunteers. In order to fill these many positions, prior training is required. To work on a race course, prior ski racing experience is not required, but taking the Level 1 Officials Course is.
At least one parent from each family is required to attend the Level 1 course. This free course will be offered around Dec 11, at our club house, during training. Not all volunteering positions require standing in the snow. Ski racing is a timed event that requires accuracy and the efficient handling of this data. There are also positions in timing and race administration that require volunteers that are good with numbers and basic computer skills.
For parents that already have their Level 1, the following courses are also offered. These courses are a great way to continually develop your abilities and skills beyond the Level 1 course. It is strongly recommended that every parent upgrades from Level 1 to Level 2. The extra knowledge will only help to avoid delays and problems during race days.
Level 2: October 23
Level 3: October 16, 17
Timing: November 13, 14
Race Admin: November 13, 14
Level 1: December 11 (Tentative)
Locations TBD, will be posted on the Alberta Alpine and RHSC website when they become available. Check out the below link for further information. http://www.albertaalpine.ca/?q=volunteer/race-official-education
We need parents to reach Level 2 & 3, in order to host races at our own hill. Also, succession planning for parents moving into higher levels as their kids get older is very important. Please feel free to contact me to discuss these different positions and our requirements for the upcoming year.
Ensuring RHSC has qualified volunteers to host events is vital to our kids enjoying their racing experience.
Thanks for your involvement
