Rabbit Hill Regional/K1 Provincial Race – January 8 & 9 – Help Needed!!

The race season is fast approaching with the first Rabbit Hill race scheduled for January 8 & 9, 2011. This will be a combined North Zone K1 Provincial/ Regional race, a first for RHSC. We are anticipating upwards of 170-180 athletes. It is a two day event with a slalom scheduled for Saturday and a kinder kombi scheduled for the Sunday.

With the holiday season approaching even faster, we need to get a jump on the organizing of this event as soon as possible.   To have these races run smoothly it takes help from a lot of people, experienced and not so experienced. If you are interested in helping out and learning more about how a race is organized and operated, this is a perfect opportunity. You can shadow one of our chiefs or other more experienced volunteers and learn from the best!   Below is a list of Volunteer Positions that need to be filled within the next week or so. I have approached a few people individually but still waiting for responses for some. If you see something you’d like to help with, let me or Ian Paine know.   We can’t do it with out you!! Hot lunch provided!   Thanks in advance for your help!   Ian Urvold, Ian Paine –  Chiefs of Race

Nancy Greene Training starts Saturday

The Nancy Greene program will have training on Saturday morning at Rabbit Hill starting at 9am.    The Hill will be open with the rope tows and chair lift running.    Weeknight training will commence on Tuesday and the hill is expecting to have the t-bar running by then.
A few important points for Saturday.
1.  Meeting place will be outside the daylodge at 9 am with lift tickets/passes – go forward the kids meet outside the clubhouse for warmup
2.  Season intro meeting for Nancy Greene program parents – will be next Saturday November 26th – in the clubhouse at 9am
3.  We will have a couple groups that are skiing well enough to ride the chair but not big enough to ride without an adult – a few parents to help this Saturday is needed and make yourself known to me or the coaches on Saturday morning – once the t-bar is running the kids can ride on their own.

4.  Grocery cards and raffle tickets – please see Heather in the clubhouse between 9am  & 10am to get your book of raffle tickets and any grocery cards you need

See you on the snow!!!

Colorado Camp a Blast

On November 3rd, twelve K2 and FIS athletes from Rabbit Hill Alpine traveled to Loveland Colorado for their major fall camp of the 2010/11 season.  The team is taking advantage of the high quality and reliable training that Loveland, Colorado has to offer in early November.  While in Colorado, the team is also taking in some of the local attractions such as the Denver Zoo.

The team flew to Denver while coaches Mike Yamashita (K2) and Tim Zarski (FIS) left 2 days early to drive the team van and trailer carrying all the team’s ski equipment and gates. The team is scheduled to return home on Sunday November 14th after 11 days on snow.

Day 1 Update:
Colorado
We just finished day 1 of our training camp in Loveland Ski Area. The snow was really hard but they adapted really quickly after a few warmup runs. It didn’t take long before they were back in he swing of things. We really challenged them today, throwing them into several different training environments. They really stepped up and they all left the hill satisfied with their performance for the day.
Day 5 Update:
All FIS and K2 boys have their heads shaved by coach Tim.
Day 7 Update:
All FIS and K2 boys regret having their heads shaved as temperature starts to plummet!
Day 8 Update:
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick update from Georgetown, CO. Everything is going great here, Tim has organized and lead an excellent camp. The team as a whole are making some huge improvements and having the time of their lives in the process.
Day 9 Update:
It was a cold training day this morning and some rough conditions on the GS lane this morning but a couple of them made some breakthroughs. We were sharing a lane with the University of Colorado ski team and 4 other Nor-am circuit racers. They were scary fast. It was great for our guys and gals to watch them charge down the hill. It was a humbling day for the K2′s in such rough fast training conditions but it was great experience for them.

URGENT CALL FOR HELP – WINTERVENTION!

We are looking for 10 kids from the K1, K2, Regional, and FIS programs to pass out packages at the entrance of the Warren Miller show this Friday evening at the Jubilee Auditorium.  Pacesetter Ski Shoppe is the presenter of this show, and as in years past, has relied on Rabbit Hill Ski Club to provide a few willing participants to work the entrances, and get the chance to see a great ski movie! Please reply to Rob Sharratt. For more information check out the Wintervention Flyer or warrenmiller.com for details.
